WORK CAMP QUICK FACTS

- WE PAINT HOUSES FOR FREE!!!!
- In 1999, Mid-Ohio Valley Work Camp (MOVWC) was started by area youth ministers from the churches of Christ. Approximately 100 young people from the Mid-Ohio Valley painted six (6) houses for people who could not afford to pay someone to do the painting.
- In 2000, around 200 young people and adults came from not on the Mid-Ohio Valley but also Zanesville, Ohio; the Huntington, WV area; and Florida to paint 12 houses.
- In 2001, 15 houses were painted by teens and adults from the Mid-Ohio Valley; Zanesville, OH; Huntington and Fairmont, WV; Connecticut; and Florida.
- In 2002, 275 young people and adults were able to paint 20 houses. The workers came from not only the Mid-Ohio Valley but also all parts of Ohio; Huntington and Fairmont, WV; Connecticut; North Carolina; Pennsylvania; and Florida.
- The largest work camp so far was in 2003 when 306 teens and adults came together from the areas mentioned above and painted 26 houses.
- In 2004, our goal is to have 350 young people and adults paint 33 houses in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
- Mid-Ohio Valley Work Camp is a non-profit organization that relies on congregational contributions and area businesses to help make the week inexpensive for young people. The following businesses have contributed food or supplies in the past: Burger King, Captain D’s, McDonalds, Outback Steak House, Ohio Valley College, Sherwin Williams, Lowe’s, Valspar Paint Co., Kroger, Covenant Cleaning Products, Ace True Value Hardware, Signs Now, Alltel, AT&T, Subway, Food-r- Less, people’s Bank, Tim Horton’s, Papa John’s Pizza, Graphics Unlimited, and Applebee’s.
- In 2000, Mid-Ohio Valley Work Camp was honored by West Virginia Governor Cecil Underwood with an award for outstanding service to the community.
- MOVWC has made front-page news in the local newspaper and has appeared on the local TV station news each year.
- Work Camp provides the opportunity for young people to serve God by serving others.
