What does the Grand Central Church of Christ believe about salvation?
Salvation is a gift of God found only in Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23; John 14:6).
All have sinned (Romans 3:23) and are accountable to God for their own sins, not the sin of others (Ezekiel 18:20).
No one is capable of becoming righteous by observing a law; any law (Galatians 3:10-11; Romans 1-3)! The purpose of the Old Testament law was to lead mankind to Christ (Galatians 3:24).
On the first Pentecost, after the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Peter and the other Apostles preached shared with their Jewish listeners the message of salvation in Christ Jesus (Acts 2:14-40). The message centered on Jesus’ life, death, burial and resurrection. They, and the Romans, had crucified Jesus whom God had made both Lord and Christ (Acts 2:23; 36). However, it should be noted that this was a part of God’s plan (Acts 2:23; Luke 24:26) and all who have sinned are equally responsible for his death (2 Corinthians 5:21).
When the crowd asked, “What shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:37, 38).
Salvation is, therefore, a gracious gift of God given to those who place their faith in what Jesus has done for us (Ephesians 2:8-10). When one places their faith in Christ Jesus they become the sons of God for as they are baptized (immersed) into Christ they are clothed with Christ (Galatians 3:26-27).
If one begins to depend upon their own righteousness, rather than Christ’s, for their salvation they “fall from grace” (Galatians 5:4).
One who has put her/his trust in Jesus’ will be changed. They will be used by God to do good works (Ephesians 2:10). Their thinking changes (Ephesians 4:17-5:21), their family life changes (Colossians 3:18-25) and, as they mature spiritually, their light is to shine so that others see their good works and glorify God (1 Peter 1:13-2:12; Matthew 5:14-16).
